Allen Maruyama, A Biography

As a second generation Japanese American (Nisei) born in southeastern Colorado, Dr. Maruyama recalls being a popular high school athlete (an all-American boy) confronted by immediate and "perilous rejction" following the Pearl Harbor attack. He "saw the face of the enemy" each time he looked in the mirror. ​

Gradually overcoming self-hate and anger at being a member of the despised minority, he reclaimed his heritage and achieved prominence as a national leader in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and co-pastor of Denver's Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church.
